Alexander McQueen has unveiled its first men’s flagship store in London’s Savile Row. For the first time, the full men’s ready-to-wear line and accessories can be found under the same roof.

Augustin Teboul Wins the 2012 Dorchester Collection Fashion Prize

Fashion label Augustin Teboul (the brainchild of designers Annelie Augustin and Odély Teboul) was crowned winner of the 2012 Dorchester Collection Fashion Prize at a ceremony at the Hôtel Plaza Athénée in Paris on 16 October 2012.

H&M’s Collaboration with Maison Martin Margiela Unveiled in New York

H&M’s collaboration with Maison Martin Margiela (which is to be launched worldwide on 15 November in around 230 H&M stores) was unveiled on 23 October 2012 in New York. The event was held in 5 Beekman Street, a derelict historical building in the city’s financial district, and guests were able to discover the collection through dance performances and especially commissioned art installations, sculptures, projections and photographs.

Beautiful Instruments of Communication: Introducing Gnu Notebooks

When recently looking into notebooks, we came across Gnu, a maker of notebooks that strives to provide high-quality stationery and found them virtually perfect in their design simplicity and functionality. Gnu’s Pop and Art ranges comprise cloth-bound A5 (210 x 148 mm) and A6 (148 x 105 mm) hardback notebooks in a choice of 24 colour combinations, with 192 pages of 100gsm ivory paper sheets (made from FSC-certified forests) each in lined or blank options. All Gnu notebooks have colour-coordinated ribbon markers and linen gussets, pockets in the back, and 16 pages at the end printed in a subtle shade of grey with perforations to extract pages and share notes.

Architectural Proposals for New York’s Grand Central Station Revealed

The Municipal Art Society of New York (MAS) unveiled three architectural proposals that re-imagine the public spaces in and around Grand Central Terminal and the East Midtown neighbourhood in New York City. From a skyway that soars above Grand Central, to a transformed Park Avenue Viaduct, to expansive pedestrian plazas and bicycle paths, the designs (presented as part of the 2012 MAS Summit for New York City) will help inform the future of the area as Grand Central celebrates its 100th anniversary.

Senhor Prudêncio Men’s Footwear and Accessories

The brainchild of Portuguese designer João Pedro Filipe, Senhor Prudêncio is a new and promising brand of men’s shoes and accessories recently shown during London Fashion Week for Spring/Summer 2013 (with the support of support of the European Capital of Culture, Guimarães 2012 through the platform Fashion/Hub). A graduate of Fashion Design by the Institute Français de la Mode (IFM) in Paris, Filipe was also a winner of a British Council Young Creative Entrepreneur Award, and owns a design studio that has developed products for several brands.

Paul Smith Exhibition at the Design Museum

The Design Museum in London has announced that it will host a major retrospective exhibition of the work of fashion designer Paul Smith. Scheduled to open on 20 November 2013, the exhibition will explore how the renowned British designer’s unique and intuitive take on design, coupled with an understanding of the importance between designer and retailer, have laid the foundations for the company’s lasting success.

Superdry + Timothy Everest Menswear Collaboration for Autumn/Winter 2012

Urban clothing label Superdry and contemporary British tailor Timothy Everest unveiled their collaborative project, a capsule collection for Autumn/Winter 2012, during London Men’s Fashion Week in June 2012. Named ‘Sebiro’, the collection (launched at the Superdry international flagship store in London’s Regent Street) includes core menswear staples in contemporary slim cuts and made from quality cloths. Designed as a range of separates to mix and match with Superdry’s casual pieces, the collection features suits and jackets devised with four characters in mind: the Super Spy, the Bank Robber, the San Franciscan, and the Country Rebel.

However, trying to understand the strap line ‘The Bluebeard’s Revenge: The Ultimate Shaving Experience for the Real Men’ is a good starting point to illustrate our ambivalent position when it comes to reviewing the Bluebeard’s Revenge shaving and skincare products for men.

Telling Fashion Stories: Somerset House Celebrates the Work of Photographer Tim Walker

London’s Somerset House will be hosting a retrospective exhibition on the work of Tim Walker, who has been regarded as one of the most visually exciting and influential fashion photographers working today, between 18 October 2012 and 27 January 2013. ‘Tim Walker: Story Teller’ will feature some of the photographer’s most recent work, drawn from the pages of magazines such as Vogue (British, French, American and Italian editions), Vanity Fair, W and The New Yorker.
